I assume that you are running IE7 and have already installed IEPro.
Did you click the button (in upper right) that says "install script"? After doing that, then ...
Close and open your browser. Go into the IEPro's Settings, and click on "User Scripts" (in left column) to display the User Scripts property page. Click the "Reload All Scripts" button. At top of User Scripts property page, verify that "Enable User Scripts" is checked (enabled). In the list of scripts, look for one named "Hotmail Ad Remover" and check it. Uncheck all other scripts. Click OK to close the property page. Then, sign on to Hotmail. The ads on right and the Quick Add pane should be gone. Post here if you still have problems. |

I have IE7 and installed IEPro and have installed this script, made sure it's enabled, closed and re-opened IE7 and signed into hotmail but the ads are still there. I also restarted my system, reloaded all scrips again, made sure it's enabled, and the ads are still there. Any ideas? I also tried to save the scrip, it downloads fine, but when I open it I get a runtime error.
Any ideas?
Thanks |

@deblog
What browser are you running? IEPro is meant to run in IE7. I have seen posts from some people who have run IEPro in IE8, but IEPro is not officially supported in IE8. I also doubt that IEPro will work well in IE6. So, my first question is: are you running IE7?
If you downloaded the script, and then double clicked it ... getting a runtime error is normal. The script cannot be run by double clicking it.
You mentioned that you made sure the script is enabled (in IEPro), but just to be sure, let me reiterate instructions for verifying that the User Scripts feature is enabled in IEPro, and that the Hotmail Ad Remover script is installed and enabled ... Please excuse me if you have already double checked these steps ...
1. Go into the IEPro's Settings, and click on "Modules" (in the left column .... should be the top entry). Verify that the "Scripts & Plugin" module (list in the middle of the page) is checked (enabled).
2. Then click on "User Scripts" (in left column .. toward bottom) to display the User Scripts property page.
2. At top of User Scripts property page, verify that "Enable User Scripts" is checked (enabled).
3. Click the "Reload All Scripts" button. In the list of scripts, look for one named "Hotmail Ad Remover". Be sure that the box next to this script is checked (enabled).
4. Be sure that the boxes next to all other scripts are unchecked (if you uncheck any boxes, make a note of them so you can enable then later).
5. Click OK to close the property page.
Sign on to Hotmail and see if the ads are gone.
If the ads are still visible, then perhaps Java scripting is disabled in your browser. Here are instructions for determining if Java scripting is enabled ...
To verify that the Java add-on is enabled:
1. From the Tools menu, or the Tools drop-down in the upper right, select Internet Options... .
2. Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage Add-ons.
3. Next to the word Show, there will be a drop-down. Select "Add-on currently loaded in Internet Explorer"
3. Look for an entry that starts with "Java(tm) Plug-In ..." (there may be more than one).
4. Verify that the Java-Plug-In entries are Enabled.
5. If these entries are not Enabled, do not change them, just let me know (these entries may have been disabled for a purpose).
To verify that Java scripting is enabled in your browser:
1. From the Tools menu, or the Tools drop-down in the upper right, choose Internet Options... .
2. Click the Security tab.
3. Select the Internet zone.
3. Click Custom Level... .
4. Scroll to the "Scripting" section of the list (towards the bottom).
5. Look for an entry called "Active Scripting". Verifiy that it is Enabled.
6. Look for an entry called "Scripting of Java Applets". Verify that it is Enabled.
7. If either of the above entries is not Enabled, do not change them, just let me know (these entries may have been disabled for a purpose).
Post your results here. If the ads are still visible, I'll instruct you on how to make a change to the script's code to determine if the script is running. |

I have downloaded, and installed IEpro7, and I also installed your hotmail ad blocker script, but I'm still getting the ad panel in hotmail? I've tried all the suggestions you have already posted several times, but nothing seems to help. I'm running IE8, but I read that the later versions on IEpro7 were compatible with IE8. Do you have any other ideas as to what I can do to get rid of the annoying ad panel? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

@mavric01:
From reading the IEPro forums, it appears that some people have managed to get IEPro to work with IE8, but there is no "official" support for IEPro in IE8. Many users have been requesting that the IEPro developers make some kind of statement in the forums as to whether or not they will continue to support IEpro, and whether or not they will upgrade IEPro to support IE8. But as far as I know, the IEPro developers have not posted in the forums for many months. So it appears that IEPro may be a "dead" product (sigh).
For that reason, I have changed my default browser to Firefox (which does have supported tools for blocking ads and running scripts). I am not aware of one tool for Firefox that will provide all of the features that IEPro provides for IE. However, there are many individual "extensions" for Firefox that will provide just about any feature you desire. There is a free extension for Firefox (called GreaseMonkey) that will allow you to run user scripts (and there is a user script for Firefox that is equivalent to the script here that blocks hotmail's ads). There is also a Firefox extension (Adblock Plus) that will block ads.
So, due to the lack of official support for IEPro in IE8, my first recommendation would be for you to look into using Firefox, the GreaseMonkey extension (to run scripts), and the specific script that removes Hotmail's ads. If you choose that option, I'll be happy to help you.
If you choose to stay with IE8, then see this post .... it is from a user who has successfully gotten IE8's ad-blocking feature to work (and to block Hotmail's ads) ...
http://windowslivehelp.com/community/p/55123/241737.aspx#241737
I have never installed IE8 on my PC, so I cannot say for sure why IEPro and the script on this page are not working for you. You mentioned that when you first go into your Hotmail inbox, the ad panel is gone ... but then it pops back. What happens when you click IE8's "refresh" button? Does the ad again disappear only to pop back? Another question: what happens when you click the "New" menu item (to compose a new message) ... is the Quick Add pane visible on the right or not? If the Quick Add pane is visible, then notice if it is first gone when the new message compose window opens, and then pops back (similar to what the ads do in the inbox).
Post your results and questions here and I'll try to help. |

langware, Thanks for the info. I went back to IE7, and it still doesn't get rid of the damn ad panel in hot mail???? When I go to reply, or start a new message the panel is gone, but when I go to my junk mail, or in box to read my messages it's still there? I thought it would go away for sure if I went back to IE7, but it didn't. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance for any help.

I cannot explain why (with IE7 and IEPro) the script is removing the Quick Add pane (when you start a new message), but not removing the ads on the right of your inbox. Very strange behavior for the script.
I sent you email containing the other script that I wrote to remove ads. Give it a try and let me know if it works.

langware: I installed the IE7Pro but not sure if it is running as that. When I go to help / about internet explorer it is version: 7.0.5730.13 is this correct?

@jme001:
The current version of IE7 is 7.0.5730.13, but remember that IE7Pro is different from IE7. IE7Pro is an add-on to IE7 (and does not come from Microsoft).
I'll be glad to give you my script, but first lets verify that you have correctly installed IE7Pro and the above user script.
From your IE7 window, click the "Tools" menu option (at the top of the window). A drop down list will appear. Do you see an entry in that drop-down list like this: "IE7Pro Preferences"?
If you do not see "IE7Pro Preferences" in the drop-down, then IE7Pro is not installed. First, you will have to install IE7Pro (let me know if you need help doing that). Then come back to these instructions to verify that the script is installed and enabled.
If you do see "IE7Pro Preferences" in the drop down, then IEPro is installed. Click the entry that says "IE7Pro Preferences" to open IE7Pro's property pages. At the top of IE7Pro's property page (in the title bar) you will see something like this: IE7Pro - V2.4.5
If the IE7Pro version at the top of your property page is not V2.4.5, then you have a back-level version ... please go to the IE7Pro site and download the most current version (2.4.5). Then come back to these instructions and continue.
If you see V2.4.5 in IE7Pro's title bar, then you have the most current version. Now, lets verify that you have scripting enabled and that the above script installed and enabled.
In the IE7Pro property page, click the word "Modules" in the left column. Then look at the list of Modules (center of window) and verify that "Scripts & Plugins" is checked (if not checked, then click to check it ... click OK at bottom of IE7Pro's property window ... then shut-down IE7, restart it, and come back to the IE7Pro Property Page).
Next, click "User Scripts" in the left column of IE7Pro's property page. At the top-center of the User Scripts property page verify that "Enable User Scripts" is checked. If not, click to check it.
Now look at the list of scripts (center of User Scripts property page) and find the script named "Hotmail Ad Remover".
If that script is not in the list, then you have not yet installed the script. Click OK at the bottom of the IE7Pro property page. The easiest way to install the script is to go to the top of this web page, and look for the "Install Script" button (on right side). Click that button to install the script. Then come back to the property page, click "User Scripts" in the left column, and verify that the script named "Hotmail Ad Remover" is shown.
Single click the entry for "Hotmail Ad Remover" script to select it and then click the box to check it. Also, uncheck any other script that has a check mark (make a note of these other scripts that may have a check mark in case you want to try to enable them later). When done, the ONLY script with a check mark should be "Hotmail Ad Remover".
Then, click OK at bottom of property window, and sign-on to Hotmail. See if the ads are gone from the right side of your inbox.
If not, post here, and I'll give you instructions on how to modify the script to verify if it is running.

@jme0001:
Lets verify that the script is actually running.
Open the IE7Pro property page. Click "User Scripts" in the left column of the property page to open the page for scripts.
Single click the script named "Hotmail Ad Remover". The script's name should be highlighted (selected). Note, that this script should also have a check mark in the box to the left of its name.
With the "Hotmail Ad Remover" script selected, then click the "View" button at the bottom right of the property page. The script should open in Notepad. Then you will insert couple of "alert" commands into the script as follows:
Towards the top of the script, insert a line that looks exactly like this:
alert("script is starting");
Between this line ...
// ==/UserScript==
and this line ...
// remove Quick Add
The segment of the script should now look like this:
// ==/UserScript==
alert("script is starting");
// remove Quick Add
Scroll to the end of the script and insert this line:
alert("script is ending");
... as the very last line of the script.
The last few lines of the script should look like this:
mcStyle.marginRight = '1px';
mcwStyle.marginRight = '1px';
alert("script is ending");
From Notapad's menu bar, click File then Save.
When the Notapad window closes, click OK at the bottom right of the property page.
Close Hotmail, and then re-sign on to hotmail.
When you sign on to hotmail, you should see a dialog box pop-up that says: "script is starting". Click OK. You may see that same dialog box repeat more than once (click OK each time it pops up). Then, you should also see a dialog box saying "script is ending". Click OK. You may also see this dialog box repeat more than once (click OK each time it pops up). Eventually, you will stop seeing the dialog boxes. Then exit Hotmail, and remove the two "alert" commands from the script and save it (follow the same process as used above for adding lines to the script, but in this case, delete the "alert" commands and SAVE the script).
What I'm looking for is whether or not you see the pop-up dialog boxes (the "starting" and the "ending" messages). If you do see both "starting" and "ending" pop-ups, then the script is actually running when you sign on to Hotmail. If you only see the "starting" pop-up, but not the "ending" pop-up, then the script is starting, but encounters an error and does not end. And if you don't see either of the pop-up dialog boxes when you sign on to Hotmail, then there is some other problem with your configuration that is preventing the script from running.
Let me know the results when you run the above experiment.
