| Description: |
*UPDATED April 15, 2009*
I have rewrote the script and added some new features/changes:
-You can now enable/disable the changing of the video quality format by setting the EnableQualityChange variable to true or false.
-You can now enable/disable the ability to add a link to allow the downloading of the video being watched. Set the EnableVideoDownloading variable to true or false to do so. The link will appear above the title of the video. Whichever format the video is being watched at is what will be downloaded. If you're watching an HD (&fmt=22 or &hd=1) video, the HD mp4 version will be downloaded. If you're watching a higher quality flv (&fmt=35) video, the higher quality flv version will be downloaded. All other formats will download the higher quality mp4 version.
-If the UseHD variable is set to true, the script will no longer attempt to change the quality of videos with '&hd=1' in the URL since they will automatically play videos in HD. These videos are found in the HD section of YouTube or when you filter search results to only show HD videos.
*DESCRIPTION*
This script automatically detects and plays the highest quality video available when watching a video on YouTube. The user can select which quality to play by setting the UseHD and UseHQflv variables in the script to either true or false. It can also optionally add a link to download the video that is being watched. |

| Why wouldn't you just login to YouTube and check "I have a fast connection. Always play higher-quality video when it's available." in the Playback Setup settings in your account? |

| Choosing that option will only play the higher quality flv version of a video if it's available. If you want to watch a video that has an HD 720p version available you still have to click the "HD" button. This script automatically switches it to HD when it's available (and the UseHD variable is set to true). Also not every video has a higher quality flv version but they do have a higher quality mp4 version. The only way to get the mp4 version to play is to add &fmt=18 to the video's URL which the script automatically does if there's no HD or higher quality flv version available. |

| I'm pretty sure that setting always forces the highest available quality on you. I've never had to click HD to get HD since checking it. |

| After testing it some more, the only time I saw YouTube automatically play an HD video in HD was when watching videos in the HD section of the site. And it will play it in HD in that section even if the "I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video." option is selected. I tried watching HD videos in my subscriptions and from using the search and none of them would play the HD version automatically even when I had the "Always play higher-quality video when it's available" option selected. It would only play the higher quality flv version until I clicked the HD button. |

| I just tried again, and every video that had HD played in HD from the get-go. And I didn't access them from the HD-only section. I don't understand why it won't work for you. |

| I don't understand either. I even tried disabling every add-on except for Flash in case something might have been interfering with it but it still wouldn't play in HD until I clicked the HD button. It does the same thing on my brother's computer as well. |

| Just did some more testing. If I do a video search and then click the "Type" link and then "HD" to show only HD videos then it will automatically play the videos in HD. However if I don't filter out the search results and click on a video with the HD icon it will not play in HD until I click the HD button. I also tried playing HD videos in the "Most Popular", "Most Viewed", and "Most Discussed" areas and they would not play in HD until I clicked the HD button. |

Gaaah. I think the setting is now broken altogether. It doesn't work for me anymore either. :(
Also, all videos watched in HD are now automatically forced to the 'theater mode'. If they don't revert back soon, I'll have to start using your script after all! :D |

| Is there anyway somebody would be able to edit the script for me so the "download video" link is in the same spot as in this one? |

Thanks for the script! I have set YouTube to always play videos in HQ, but wanted an option to also play videos in HD, and your script is just the ticket! Thanks! :-)

Bummer. This script stopped working for me. I tried reinstalling it and nothing.
Can you please look into it? I really liked it! |
